Prescriptive and Descriptive Grammar is a domain of suntax (study of rules, construction of sentences and grammar)
Prescriptive Grammar :
Prescribe means to suggest or authorize something. Rules are prescribed, then they are applied. Prescriptive grammar means rules are studied. Rules are told first. Rules come first and use comes later.
A Prescriptive Grammar tells us what should be and what should not be said.
Which sentences are grammatical correct and which are not correct. The sentences which we make should be in conformity with grammatical rules.
Prescriptive approach is a traditional method of teaching.
Prescriptive rule is:
Don't split infinitives. (Base form of a verb that doesn't change with tense and number e.g to +1st form of Verb and all verbs that come after model verbs are called infinitives.)
E.g He went to hurriedly address this issue.
A Prescriptive view of language implies a distinction between good grammar and bad grammar.
Descriptive Grammar :
It tells how language is used not how it should be used.
(Native speaker and those who have natural exposure to the language are not taught the rules of grammar but still they are aware of whether this grammatical construction is good or not. Descriptive Grammar is not judgmental. It drives rules from the use of language.

In Prescriptive Grammar Rules come first and use come later.In Descriptive Grammar use comes first and rules come later.
