Broken Hook Gear Repair - Singer 700 Series - Part 2 - Fitting

Описание к видео Broken Hook Gear Repair - Singer 700 Series - Part 2 - Fitting

The repaired hook gear for the Singer 760 is ready to fit. The epoxy glue has set and there's just a little tidy up to do.

I make a mistake when putting the collar on the hook shaft. It's upside down and I will show my mistake in another video.

After a comment on the part 1 video pointed me in the right direction, I found the part number and my local supplier has the part in stock. I'll order one but in the meantime I'll go ahead with the fitting of the repaired gear.
This option is quite good if you can't get a part quickly for some reason (like Covid-19 lock down) and you need to get your machine up and running.

I removed a hook from another machine and tried removing the gear from the hook by driving out the roll pin. It looks like the gear is a press fit.

The repaired gear is fitted to the machine and the timing had not slipped at all so there's an easy way to make sure the hook gear is meshed with its counterpart gear correctly. The timing marks on the needle bar are used to set the hook timing.
The bobbin winder mechanism is fitted and set and then the remaining parts are assembled and set.
Then its time to test sew the machine.

The 700 series Singers are precision made in Germany and are beautiful and very functional, not to mention easy to use.
