Today, I’m working once again on the Nakamichi 681ZX, a deck that’s been sent to my shop for repair for the third time in just over 2.5 years. This time, it was experiencing playback stops—a problem I was determined to solve for good. Join me as I troubleshoot the root cause and bring this fantastic deck back to life.

As a bonus, I upgraded it with Athan pinch rollers to improve tape handling and replaced the LED lights, giving the deck a refreshed look. The Nakamichi 681ZX is one of my favorite sounding decks, and the results are definitely worth the effort!
