We sat down (online) for a conversation and Q&A with authors Alex Charnley and Michael Richmond to discuss their new book, Fractured: Race, Class, Gender and the Hatred of Identity Politics, out now from Pluto Press.

Fractured is a much-needed intervention into contemporary debates on identity politics, dismantling and debunking misconceptions around recent movements. Instead, the authors demonstrate that the harked after 'universal' class of critics of identity politics is itself a negation of the realities both of the varied oppressions experienced by different groups, and indeed of history itself. By looking at the histories of a range of movements of resistance, and reactions to them, the authors trace histories of fragmentation throughout modern history, demonstrating the persistence of the same problems over time.
