Overview
GNS3 is a graphical network simulator used by network professionals and students to design, configure, test and troubleshoot virtual and real networks. It allows you to run Windows, Linux, Docker, Cisco and other, Network and Desktop Operating Systems on a laptop depending with your hardware's capability.
GNS3 software components:1. GNS3-all-in-one software 2. GNS3 Virtual Machine appliance.
When you configure GNS3 you have the option to install it on the Local host, on a local virtualization software , or remotely using VMware ESXI.
The GNS3-all-in-one software - installs the GNS3 Local server(GUI), tools and other supporting applications on the host computer. The GNS3 Virtual Machine Appliance - is installed on a virtualization software.
Important:Understand the sequence on how GNS3 operates on a network.
When you run the Local GNS3 server(GUI), at a certain point, it will automatically power up the GNS3 Virtual Machine Appliance therefore it is important that your local host and GNS3 VM appliance are in the same network for them to communicate.
For ease of installation and configuration, your network should be configured with DNS and DHCP Servers, and GNS3 VM's Network card, set as bridged on VMware Workstation Pro.
