NOTE: Jack DENNY (1895 – 1950) American dance band leader during the 1920/30s. Born in the US, he started his musical career in Montreal, Quebec in 1920. Throughout the 1920s and 1930s, Denny led the conventionally styled orchestras, during the 1920s playing at various venues, including the Mount Royal Hotel in Montreal, Canada. In 1931, he relocated to New York City, where he played at the newly opened Waldorf-Astoria Hotel. The Denny's band quickly gained popularity among the high society clientele of the Waldorf-Astoria, prompting him to develop a sweet sound that had no brass section. However, his arrangements were often complex and fast-paced, unique for a sweet band. The Waldorf-Astoria Orchestra appeared in the film "Moonlight and Pretzels" in 1933. Denny retired from the music business six years before his death and worked as a salesman for the Baldwin Piano Company.

This lovely Coslow’s tune was rearranged in Poland as a melancholy ballad „Gdy jesień się zaczyna”... (When autumn begins / I sit by the fireplace / as early dusk creeps in). In 1929, the Polish vedette Hanka Ordonówna made a truly haunting rendition of it, with the text written by her husband, Count Michał Tyszkiewicz    • 1929: Hanka Ordonówna - Gdy jesień się zac...
