Policing minister wants 'substantial increase' in stop and search

Policing minister Chris Philp says he wants to see a "substantial increase in the use of stop and search".

He noted that the use of stop and search in London has decreased in recent years, and he wants officers to have "the confidence to use it where there are reasonable grounds".

"Stop and search takes knives off the streets," he insisted. "It can save lives. And that's why it's so important that power is used."
