Both the inshore boat, and the all-weather boat, are launched in response to a "PLB alert" - an automated alert from a lifebelt that has been submerged in sea water. The alert gives an approximate location. After a brief search the ILB couldn't spot it, so requested assistance from the ALB. Co-incidentally a fixed-wing Coastguard aircraft was in the area, and joined in the search circling over Ballard Point and Old Harry Rocks.
I happened to be at Peveril Point when the original alarm sounded, and got to the lifeboat station just as the crew were arriving.
