Colonel Gaddafi has issued another defiant message urging his supporters to fight on and vowed to stop oil exports.

42 years to the day that he took power in Libya after a coup he told a satellite television channel: "Let it be a long battle. We will fight from place to place, from town to town, from valley to valley, from mountain to mountain."

He went on: "If Libya goes up in flames, who will be able to govern it? Let it burn."

In a further rant he added: "You will not be able to pump oil for the sake of your own people. We will not allow this to happen. Be ready for a war of gangs and urban warfare."

Yesterday, world leaders promised to help the rebuilding of Libya after six months of war. The 63 nations pledged to unfreeze more money for emergency aid.

There are conflicting reports about the whereabouts of the 69-year-old fugitive dictator. The rebels yesterday suggested he might be hiding out in Bani Walid, a desert town south of Tripoli.
