Music is a large part of our family’s daily life. After our daughter was born with a rare genetic challenge, we spent many days in the hospital learning how to help her thrive with the debilitating illness. My passion for electronics actually started as a way to continue creating art while sitting in the hospital room.

Fast forward to now, our daughter is a happy young person full of personality. While she cannot speak yet, she is infatuated with all things related to music: playing, singing, and making motions. This live loop began as a song for my daughter based on one of her favorite children’s songs, “If You’re Happy and You Know It.” I quote the children’s song at the end of my loop but with one altered note, an allusion to the way genes can manipulate a person’s body when one component of the DNA is missing.

I continue to experiment with ClyphX Pro in this loop. As I dive deeper into automation lanes, I discovered you can creatively implement effects in real time that evolve as the solo proceeds. I am eternally grateful to Connor Shafran for spending a few Zoom sessions with me on how to integrate ClyphX Pro into my set-up.

This performance was recorded in one take from start to finish.
