Cosmetics chain Lush shut all UK shops, factories and its website for a day on Wednesday to protest over starvation in Gaza. Stores displayed posters reading “Stop starving Gaza” and the company said it hoped the UK government would act, including ending arms sales to Israel.

Lush admitted closing shops was difficult but said many customers share its concerns.

The protest follows a UN-backed report warning famine is spreading in Gaza, though Israel denies this and blames aid agencies and Hamas.

Since the October 2023 Hamas attack, more than 63,000 people have been killed in Gaza, according to the territory’s health ministry.
