In 1215, King John was forced to sign the Magna Carta. Over the next century, different Kings fought against men like Simon de Montfort and England's other Barons to limit the Charter and restore their full rights as monarchs. Ultimately though, the Magna Carta survived and would become a foundational document for democracies the world over.
