Make conditional sentences in Spanish using “Si” -- Lesson 1

Описание к видео Make conditional sentences in Spanish using “Si” -- Lesson 1

I will teach you to make conditional sentences in Spanish. Remember when you were a child and your parents tried to bribe you saying “if you finish your homework, you will get ice cream”? Well, let me tell you that your parents were using a type of sentence known as oraciones condicionales. Of course, your parents didn’t know this and neither did you. Now you only care about this because you are learning a language so let me explain these oraciones to you. These sentences express a condition that needs to be met for a result to happen, which is the reason your parents needed it so much. Let me give you some more examples so it is clearer: “If you stop crying, I will take you to the moon”; “Si te callas, te llevo a la luna”; “If you watch this lesson, I will buy you a popsicle”; “Si ves esta clase, te compro una paleta de hielo”. As you can see, this construction needs at least two verbs, one for each clause or part. One verb follows the condition “si” (if), and one verb is placed after a comma in the clause without the “if”. Sentences without the “if” in Spanish have a verb in present, unlike English which generally has the auxiliary “will”: If you study, I will buy you a candy -- Si estudias te compro un dulce”. Observe that in Spanish I did not use the future for the verb “buy” in Spanish. But sometimes under certain circumstances you may use the future, as you will learn in this video. This type of sentence or clause takes a name that confuses students. These are conditional clauses, but there is also a tense called conditional. So many students think these conditional sentences use verbs in conditional which is not always true as we will see in this video. Watch this introductory part of conditional sentences in Spanish so you have a strong base for more complex conditional sentences coming up in my next Spanish classes.
