Fox 601/Fox 201/Heckel Crest/Moosmann 150EDLX Large Hall comparison

This was, by far, the most challenging side-by-side video I have made. These instruments are all extremely different from each other: pitch center, keywork, response. I struggled quite a bit moving between each instrument and I had to switch up my reeds which I have largely avoided when making these videos.

You need to know that the Heckel Crest was much too large for me. I was depressing keys on the long joint while trying to play in the top octave. The technical issues really prevented me from doing any justice for this impressive instrument. I was really intrigued by the runs of Le Sacre and opening to Tchaikovsky 6. There is a ton of potential in this instrument for the right player. A few of my students were very fond of it and had no problems playing it really well. One student played his entire lesson on the Crest and sounded wonderful! It was a bit disappointing to hear him switch back to his Fox 601 at the end of the lesson.

This side-by-side definitely confirmed my decision to move in a completely new direction for my in playing. Thin wall is definitely for me and I'm really excited to make this transition.
