১৯৭১ সালে বাংলাদেশ স্বাধীন হলেও অবরুদ্ধ ছিল মিরপুর।
১৯৭২ সালের ৩১ জানুয়ারি সকালে মুক্ত হয় অবরুদ্ধ মিরপুর।
বাংলাদেশের একাত্তরের বিভীষিকাময় হত্যাযজ্ঞের স্মৃতি বহন করছে মিরপুর জল্লাদখানা বধ্যভূমি। মুক্তিযুদ্ধের নয় মাসে বিভিন্ন শ্রেণী-পেশার মানুষকে ধরে এনে নির্যাতনের পর শিরোশ্ছেদ করে এখানকার পাম্প হাউজের কুপে ফেলে দেওয়া হতো। স্থানীয় বিহারীদের সহযোগিতায় এখানে ইতিহাসের বর্বরতম হত্যাযজ্ঞ চালায় পাকিস্তানী হানাদার বাহিনী।
মুক্তিযুদ্ধের হত্যা যজ্ঞের নিরবসাক্ষী হয়ে থাকা সারা দেশে ছড়িয়ে থাকা বধ্যভূমি গুলোর মধ্যে মিরপুর ১০ নম্বরের এই বধ্যভূমিটি অন্যতম ।
বাংলাদেশের মহান মুক্তিযুদ্ধের ইতিহাস সবার মাঝে ছড়িয়ে দেয়া এবং দেশের সব বধ্যভূমির যথাযথ সংরক্ষন হোক সেই প্রত্যাশা করি ।

Although Bangladesh became independent in 1971, Mirpur was under siege. The besieged Mirpur was liberated on the morning of 31 January 1972. The Mirpur Execution Slaughterhouse bears the memory of the horrific massacre of 1971 in Bangladesh.
During the nine months of the Liberation War, people of different classes and professions were arrested and tortured and beheaded and dumped in the well of the pump house here. In collaboration with the local Biharis, the Pakistani aggressors carried out the most brutal massacre in history.
Mirpur No. 10 is one of the landmarks in the country which has witnessed the massacre of the liberation war.
I hope that the history of the great liberation war of Bangladesh will be spread among all and all the lands of the country will be properly preserved.
