Actually, Bharat Arun, while talking about Shami through a podcast, said that, "When Shami was going through trauma in his personal life, Ravi (Shastri) talked to him and said, 'If you need any kind of help, feel free to ask.'

And in 2018, just before the England tour, We had a Test match against Afghanistan in Bengaluru. Shami failed the fitness test and was dropped from the team, he was very disappointed, his personal problems were also at their peak. So he came to my room and said, 'Paaji, I will quit cricket.'

I asked him, 'What will you do after quitting cricket? Whatever you are and whatever you have achieved, it is because of cricket.' He said he was angry. I took him to Ravi. Ravi said, 'If you are angry and the ball is in your hand, show your anger with the ball. Do you want to quit cricket because your body is not fit?'

We sent him to NCA and the only instruction given to him was that he had to work hard physically, not bowl. Three weeks after sending him to NCA, he called me and said: ‘Paaji, I am running like a horse right now.’

This is how Mohammed Shami regained his confidence and played those five Test matches in England. In the fifth Test match, after the tea break on the last day, he bowled at a speed of 140 kmph - that was his level of fitness”
