"Well the reason we were here today on behalf of Any Lopez Belloza is we filed a lawsuit a week before Thanksgiving because we thought she was unlawfully detained in violation of the Constitution of the United States. She was a college student, was on a full ride at Babson College in the suburbs of Boston and she was trying to surprise her family with a trip home for Thanksgiving and unbeknownst to her she was immediately detained at Logan Airport. She was held for two and a half days and illegally deported to Honduras in violation of an order issued by a judge of this court that said that she should not be deported and should have an opportunity to come to court to make her arguments. Notwithstanding, officials in Texas, where she was flown to that Friday evening, decided to deport her on Saturday and the government has now claimed a few months after the fact that it made a mistake. Well, mistakes, purposeful conduct, at the end of the day a court order was violated and today we had a hearing before a federal judge to see if a remedy could be achieved for a violation of her rights, a violation of this court order..."
