En Passant is a Chess rule that must be followed. Here's the breakdown of the rule.

1. En Passant starts when a pawn moves up 2 squares.

2. If an opposing pawn is on the adjacent square to the left or the right of this pawn that has just moved 2 squares, then this opposing pawn has the right to immediately capture the pawn that has just moved 2 squares.

3. If the capture is not done immediately on that move, then the right to capture via En Passant is forfeited.

When you play chess, you should always play with the Chess rule En Passant.
