VICTORIA -- The wheels are in motion on a new plan that would mean more jobs, more marine traffic, and more money for the Victoria's inner harbour.

The Ralmax Group of Companies is proposing to build a new graving dock similar to the one in Esquimalt, only smaller. Ralmax currently leases the shipyard land from the city and says the new plan is the next phase of long term plans for the shipyard.

"We believe there is enough market on the west coast for the ship repair and retrofit business," says Doug Crowder of Ralmax.

The city is aware of the proposed expansion and is working alongside the company to bring the plan to fruition.

The plan has sparked mixed reaction from those in the neighborhood. While some argue the shipyard should be moved, others like Willie Waddell say residents need to need accept it: "I knew I was moving next to a shipyard and I know shipyards can be noisy".

The Ralmax Group is working to secure regulatory approval. If approved, construction could begin as soon as summer 2012.
