I get asked from time to time about addressing the shrimp in side control, and what counters can be done to effectively respond to it. One great option pulled from amateur wrestling is the near side cradle, which works out to be a great pin in wrestling and a great control position for jiu jitsu. Any time you can force your opponent to carry your bodyweight and stop them from moving...bad things are imminent.

In this video (shot from a class I taught at Spectre), we'll discuss getting into the cradle off of your opponent shrimping. Also included are two attack options, the butcher shop choke and cradle bunching. Be on the lookout for Part 2 soon, where we'll go over even worse things to punish your friends!

The butcher shop choke was difficult to catch a good view of, so if you want more details check out this excellent video from the Ground Marshal, Neil Melanson:    • The Most Deadly Grappling Choke From ...  .
