Raleigh, North Carolina is the state capital for North Carolina and is the second largest City in North Carolina with a population of over 470,000 people based on the 2019 projections. Raleigh is one of the fastest growing cities in the United States. Raleigh is known as the " City of Oaks" because of the numerous oak trees in the city and the oak trees which line the streets in the heart of the City.

Raleigh is named after Sir Walter Raleigh. Sir Walter Raleigh established the lost Roanoke Colony in present Dare County. Sir Walter Raleigh was a writer, poet, solider, politician, courtier, spy , and explorer. Raleigh lived from 1552 to 1618. After the Revolutionary War - Raleigh was planned to be the state capital for North Carolina in 1788. In 1792 - Raleigh was Incorporated as the state capital. Interesting fact is that Raleigh was the fourth and current capital of North Carolina. Bath, Edenton, and New Bern were capitals before. Interesting fact is that not all of Raleigh , NC is in Wake County because a small portion of the of the City falls in Durham County which County Seat is Durham, NC - which is the 4th largest city in North Carolina.

Raleigh has 3 national sports teams which are the Carolina Hurricanes (National Hockey ), North Carolina FC (United Soccer League ), and North Carolina Courage ( National Women's Soccer). They also have a single A baseball team - Carolina Mudcats, Carolina Rollergirls which is in the Women's Flat Track Derby Association , and the Raleigh Flyers which is in the American Ultimate Disc League.

Raleigh , NC offers a lot pertaining to it's parks. Raleigh has more than 150 sites throughout the city with more than 8,100 acres of park land, 78 miles of greenway, 22 comunity centers, a BMX Championship Track, 112 tennis courts, 5 public lakes, and 8 aquatic centers. The public lakes are Lake Raleigh, Lake Johnson Park, Shelley Lake, Lake Lynn, and Raleigh Municipal Lake.
