TWO PLANES COLLIDE IN THE AIR AT THE BEJA AIR SHOW - ONE PERSON CONFIRMED DEAD

On Facebook, the Portuguese Air Force informs that the fatal victim has Spanish nationality. In the same statement, it pays "the greatest condolences to the family, friends and acquaintances, being deeply in solidarity at this time of loss" and adds that the event was "immediately interrupted".
The fatal victim will be a Spanish pilot, Vueling commander, with considerable flying experience, who was flying a 1983 Yakovlev Yak-52.
The accident also resulted in one minor injury, a 37-year-old pilot of Portuguese nationality, who was transported to Beja Hospital.

According to Civil Protection, there are one confirmed dead and one injured.
One of the aircraft crashed mid-flight and another managed to remain in the air and landed safely.
There are 21 operational personnel and at least 11 vehicles on site, according to the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority.
"The Air Force regrets to announce that, at 4:05 pm, during the Beja AirShow air festival, at Air Base No. 11, two aircraft suffered an accident during an air demonstration," the Air Force said in a statement.
"We currently have emergency services on site providing emergency services, in accordance with the established security plan, which was immediately activated. More information will be made available as soon as it is obtained", he adds.
According to JN, spectators noticed something unusual with the noise of one of the planes in the formation, shortly before the accident.

An aircraft from the Yakstars aerobatics team crashed this Sunday at the Beja Air Show.
The accident occurred at 4:07 pm, in the south area of the Air Base (BA11).
There is currently no information on victims as resources are being sent to the location.
Due to the accident, the air festival was interrupted, according to information from an official source from the Portuguese Air Force.
The two planes involved in the accident belong to the Yakstars aerobatics group, made up of Portuguese and Spanish pilots. The group flies Warbird Yak52s aircraft, developed by the Soviet Union. The group is one of the largest civil aviation aerobatic display teams.
