The modern tesla coil is a modified bipolar tesla coil. Otherwise known as an Oudin coil. The main difference is the primary winding has been moved from the center of the coil to the bottom of the coil. Depending on how you build it the coil can be called a monopole or a bipolar coil but not both. If the primary exceeds the secondary it is a monopole. If it leaves any part of the secondary exposed it is still considered a bipolar coil.

The distinction comes from the method of operation and desired result. A monopole has only one side that is considered north or positive. Where a bipolar has both positive and negative along with north and south. The operations of each require different connections as well. The monopole has a grounded wire connected to the secondary. The bipolar coil does not need a ground wire.

In the bipolar coil the secondary will produce sparks at each end while being driven by a coil attached to a tank circuit. You can adjust where the primary coil sits on the secondary and it will change the resonance frequency of each side. When a load is applied the coil will go into oscillation mode and produce an AC sine wave. The input of the coil is still pulsed DC in this circumstance.

Focusing on the modern day tesla coil, or Oudin coil we can produce energy at a distance by capacitance field coupling. Simply put we excite secondary coils at a distance without any connections. We achieve this by taking the primary driving coils resonance frequency and winding multiple secondary coils to that exact frequency. The result is that the secondary coils will pull in power from the environment. In this experiment it is important to note that the secondary coils have no primary or circuitry to make them turn on. It is only by matching a frequency to a resonance frequency that allows them to work.

When six secondary coils are placed around a primary driving coil the air is used to store energy as a capacitor. It is also used as a vacuum for environmental energy. A node forms in the center of each secondary coil and has an operation similar to a bipolar tesla coil. When the fields align with proper distancing you will achieve capacitance coupling between all the coils including the primary driving coil. Then you can reduce the amount of energy being put into the system and the energy will increase. This may seem to be contrary to a single coil but it works perfectly in this situation.

We do not attach any circuits to the secondary coil in a demonstration. The idea is to show how resonance actually works. In a usable energy situation we attach a capacitor to both ends of the secondary’s and pull power out. However any attachment to the secondary coil will result in the frequency of that coil to change. It will ruin your experiment if not accounted for. Until the coils reach full saturation your body will also change the value of the coils.

This may seem like over unity but it is not. You can turn down the driving coil to the mosfet trigger voltage but not any lower. In cases where there is no trigger voltage, one volt must be present. The system does pull in from the environment and fill from the primary driving coil until the coils reach saturation. But then act as a leaky capacitor to the environment. The last reason is proper accounting. The earth has joules of energy and we only tap into less than one percent of that at any time. This will look like overunity in that the amount of energy put in from a known source is lower than the total energy of the system. However in accounting for the earth's energy we are not even close to over unity. This is however a way to use less input power while increasing the input from the earth's energy into the field itself.
