November Sunday
I think it was the fourteenth of the month.
A chilly, foggy London night.
But as chilly, foggy Sunday nights go,
It was a good one.

Millions huddled tight around their hearths,
Knitting, reading, chatting, playing cards,
Close to their glowing wireless sets,
To catch the good news.

Out in the streets of the still-shattered city
A few people braved the night air.
