The Kara-Kata Afrobeat Band and Kara-Kata Afrobeat Society of Canada is a not-for-profit organization based in Vancouver, Canada.

The Kara-Kata Afrobeat Band brings together a dynamic group of talented musicians from diverse cultural backgrounds, each contributing their unique musical expertise. This rich diversity blends seamlessly into a vibrant tapestry of sound, capturing the essence and spirit of Afrobeat—a genre pioneered by our inspiration, Fela Kuti.

Fela Kuti, a visionary musician and advocate for human rights and social justice, continues to inspire generations with his revolutionary music. His legacy is deeply connected to the roots of our band, founded and led by Toyin Kayo-Ajayi, a proud Nigerian dedicated to keeping Fela's message alive.

Every October, we proudly host our annual Felabrate celebration, joining global events to honour Fela’s life, music, and enduring influence. Beyond music, Kara-Kata actively fosters community connection and cultural education. We organize events that bring people together to celebrate and learn about African culture while spearheading community outreach and sustainable farm initiatives in Canada and Nigeria. These projects empower African communities and promote sustainability, reinforcing our commitment to unity and positive change.
