But here’s the truth every consumer should know:

👉 GST is applied on the bill date, not on the stock. That means if you buy something on or after 22nd September 2025 it must carry the reduced GST.

👉 As per the rules under Legal Metrology & GST Act MRPs on packaged goods must be revised or re-labeled to reflect lower prices. Sellers can even display dual prices (old MRP + revised MRP) but they cannot charge you the higher one.

👉 Section 171 of the CGST Act 2017 clearly states any reduction in GST must be passed on to the consumer. Keeping that benefit is illegal profiteering.
What you should do as a smart consumer:

Always check your bill date when you shop after 22 Sept.

Look at the MRP label. If it hasn’t been revised ask for clarification.

If you’re still charged extra file a complaint on the National Consumer Helpline 1800-11-4000.
