Описание к видео 4-4 Membrane Proteins; Receptors, Glycoproteins, Glycolipids (Cambridge AS & A Level Biology, 9700)

This video is to describe and explain some of the functions of the membrane proteins found in the cell surface membrane.

1. Transport proteins: transports specific particles across the membrane via facilitated diffusion or active transport

2. Receptor proteins: to receive signaling molecule such as hormones

3. Glycoproteins (and glycolipid) can help in cell-to-cell recognition. By detecting the glycoproteins and glycolipids, our immune system can determine whether a cell belongs to the body, or is foreign (and potentially harmful)

4. Enzymes: Some membrane proteins can act as enzymes to catalyze specific chemical reactions
