In January 2024, I challenged myself to a ‘No Spend Year’ in attempt to break bad money habits, take back control of my finances and reverse any chance of lifestyle creep. I’ve documented the journey on TikTok and so many of you have followed along! So I thought it was time to take it to the big screen - YouTube.

The practical steps I took to cut down on monthly expenses:
00:25 Step 1 Cutting out hair appointments: I minimised my beauty expenses starting with strategic planning around hair appointments, I dyed my hair back to black to cut down on maintenance costs This cut costs by £150 a month

03:20 Step 2 Evaluating Expenses: A critical look into my spending habits, identifying areas of excessive spending, and setting realistic budgets that align with my financial goals for the year.

05:33 Step 3 | Nail Appointments: Similar to my approach with hair, I changed my nail care routine to fit within my no-spend objectives while still feeling pampered and put together. This cut costs by £80 a month

07:00 Step 4 | Meal Prepping: This was my biggest area of cost saving. By taking the time to grocery shop and make meals at home I cut costs by £240 a month.

09:13 Step 5 | Rewards Banking: I maximised financial products to benefit from rewards banking, using my Chase card to earn cash back and interest and earning points on my Amex credit cards to make my money work a little harder to support my no-spend year.

12:17 Step 6 | Telling My Friends: Support is so necessary on this journey. I communicated my plans to my friends and family to manage expectations around social plans like expensive dinners and days out
