"頌龍旗" was the semi-official anthem of the Qing Dynasty between 1896-1906, however it was never officially recognized by the Qing government. In 1906, the Department of the Army was established and briefly adopted this as its official marching anthem. The song shares many similarities with the Qing naval march, "北洋水师军歌" ("Song of the Beiyang Fleet").
