Preterite vs Imperfect PowerPoint Lesson

This Preterite vs Imperfect PowerPoint lesson introduces students to the basic differences between the preterite and imperfect tenses. It begins with a review of both regular and irregular verbs and the key words associated with each tense. Spelling changes are included for the preterite. Each tense has a separate review section. Then, student will practice identifying either preterite or imperfect in multiple exercises in which they will identify the key words in addition to conjugating verbs. Students will also learn how to use two past actions in the same sentence. To reinforce the concept, a group drama activity is included that contain three types of sentences with two past actions. Students will figure out how to act out each type of sentence to present to the class. Then the class will guess which sentence was being acted out. This is an incredible visual for the lesson! At the end of the PowerPoint, five more practice slides are included that can be used as daily warm-ups or exit tickets. And the final part of the lesson explains how verbs can change meanings with the preterite and the imperfect.

This lesson can be used both at the end of Spanish 2 and the beginning of Spanish 3.
