Pulaski Skyway History

Описание к видео Pulaski Skyway History

In Northern NJ, people can mention two bridges: The George Washington and the Pulaski Skyway.
The Pulaski Skyway was built in a National Emergency, in conjunction with the Jersey City 20-block underway and the Holland Tunnel.
After World War I, both the Federal and local governments realized that the US had no direct road from New York City to Washington. This 13-mile highway would be called "The Route 1 Connection." Construction began in 1919.
Three parameters shaped these three major structures. No Draw Bridges. No Railway Crossings. No Traffic Lights.
The Holland Tunnel and Jersey City underway were completed in 1927. The Pulaski Skyway in 1932.
Named after General Casimir Pulaski of the American Revolution, the Skyway is 3.5 miles long, 135 feet high at the two waterways and 118 concrete piers holding it up.
Under it are truck lots, railyards, warehouses and I-95.
