$90,000 LANSING OPEN
Royal Scot Lanes, Lansing, Mich., Oct 23-27, 1981
Roth Puts Sliker In Dutch

Mark Roth rolled a "Dutch 200" game in the championship match to down Gil Sliker by eight pins and win the $90,000 Lansing Open.

Roth, who earned the top-seeded position by overcoming a 107-pindeficit with a 279-146 position round win over Earl Anthony, alternated strikes and spares throughout the match, giving challenging Sliker a chance to beat him with a 10th-frame double. A 10-pin on Sliker's first shot saddled him with a 200-192 loss and his third runnerup showing of the year - all by less than 10 pins.

To get to the final game, Sliker had downed Joe Hutchinson, 246-224, and Anthony, 235-202, in a bid for his first Tour victory. For Roth, who had won the Showboat Invitational in Las Vegas earlier in the year, the win was worth $11,000.
