Doing More with Less: How to Leverage Student Leaders in the Learning Center
Amber Hamilton serves as an Assistant Professor and Coordinator of the Tutorial Center at Slippery Rock University.

Managing a learning center can be overwhelming, especially if you’re the sole professional staff or one of a small team. Fostering student leaders to assist with operations can be a helpful solution. Student leaders can influence how other students and administrators perceive the learning center. We’ll discuss tools to help learning center professionals foster their supervisory skills when utilizing student leaders to help with the center’s operations.

Attendees will also:
Learn to cultivate student staff and strengthen their leadership skills
Identify what is needed to support the overall mission and operation of the learning center
Understand the importance and value of student leadership
Identify three ways to foster leadership skills among a diverse group of student staff.

About the Speaker:
Amber Hamilton serves as an Assistant Professor and Coordinator of the Tutorial Center at Slippery Rock University. With extensive experience overseeing the tutoring services on campus and academic support initiatives, Amber aims to foster a safe and welcoming environment for students seeking help in their academic journey. Amber received her Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics from the University of Virginia, a Masters of Education in Student Affairs and Higher Education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and is currently working on her doctoral degree at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania where her research focuses on academic help-seeking behaviors among college students in the AI era.
