Shaedon Sharpe - Kentucky - Scouting Report

Shaedon Sharpe is a freshman who attended Kentucky. He was a consensus five-star recruit coming out of high school and is widely considered one of the best shot-makers in the draft.

He’s an elite shot-maker that possesses a ton of shot versatility. He can make difficult jumpers and has a ton of scoring upside. He has a chance to be one of the best scorers in this draft. He’s a high level finisher at the rim due to his vertical pop and touch around the rim. He’s a good shooter form the outside as he has an effortless shooting stroke and nice touch. Has the ability to play on or off the ball. He has shown intriguing passing flashes due to his solid court vision. He has just enough passing ability to go along with his scoring package.

His defense is still a work in progress as he lacks effort and struggles to properly position himself defensively. He has had struggles creating separation from defenders due to a lack of burst and a poor handle. His shot selection can be very questionable. He rarely gets to the rim in the half-court and is often relying on difficult jumpers. He’s a bit streaky as a shooter from the outside as he has occasional bad misses.

My Thoughts: Sharpe is considered a mystery prospect in this years draft due to him not playing a single minute in college and teams having limited film on him. His skilled shot-making ability is extremely impressive but he’s extremely jump-shot heavy which could lead to inefficiency. The lack of a handle and burst leaves me very skeptical about his ability to create off the bounce. He’s clearly talented and has a chance to be one of the top scorers in the draft but I’m not sure you can make a plausible case for him being a top four pick.
