A follow up evaluation of the long-term impacts of a Colombian training and job placement programme for urban youth revealed that the programme effects persisted. Many programmes of this type exist around the world but fail to achieve such an impact. The programme involved three months of classroom work and a three month apprenticeship at a firm. Following the training, participation in the formal labour market and earnings increased. This success can be attributed to the courses catering to skills that were in demand by the involved firms.
