If you're interested in health and wellness and you spend any amount of time online, you've no doubt heard that seed oils will kill you. According to popular heath advice, seed oils are a key cause of heart disease, create inflammation, and play a role in weight gain. But do they really? If you’re confused, this video is for you.

Seed oils is a slang term used to refer to canola oil, soy, sunflower, safflower and all the clear bottled, yellow vegetable oils found in the grocery store. In the published literature the terms “vegetable oils” or “PUFA oils” (polyunsaturated fatty acids) are used. But in popular health, the term “seed oil” has been adopted and is usually a clear sign that you're about to hear some nutri-babble nonsense.

To lump all vegetable oils into one category makes no sense, and to vilify Omega-6 fats without any solid science is foolish. But let me be clear, I don’t eat canola oil and no health and wellness professional would recommend highly refined, cheap vegetables oils for optimal health.

I do, however, eat a lot of polyunsaturated fats (PUFAs). In fact, I’ve eaten huge amounts for the past 21 years, anywhere from 40 to 60% of my total daily calories – so I was really surprised to learn I should probably be dead.

I eat all my PUFAs in their raw, natural form – walnuts, almonds, flaxseed, chia. And my blood work shows no issues. At this point, my healthy body and brain are quite literally made – at least in part – by seed oils, so I thought my story might help give some perspective to the seed oil debate. Let’s get started!
