My live journalism piece, Dispatch from Durban, performed at the International Live Journalism Festival Climate Cocoon. Reflections on disaster reporting in the face of climate change.

"Hearing stories about my parents' lived experience of apartheid gave me an important perspective that shaped me into the journalist that I am today. An awareness that the terrible things that happen to people are not the only things about their lives worth paying attention to. These events are catalysts but not the whole story.

Coming from Africa, a continent that is usually only spoken about in terms of its challenges. Whose people are often framed by international media as interchangeable tropes for all types of suffering - food insecurity, war and now climate change - it's really important for my work to also capture the ways of life that make us who we are. The spaces, rituals and routines that are threatened by climate change."
