V: I’m Valentina. I’m 9 years old.
A: We were born in Shanghai.
V: We live in Leuven, Belgium now.
Mom: Why are you wearing hanfu and qipao?
V: We’re going to celebrate a Chinese festival.
A: Let’s go!
A: Today is the Dragon Boat Festival in China. We’re racing dragon boats on land with our friends from the Leuven Chinese Community. Once, the children “rowed” these dragon boats and participated in the local parade, and attracted many local residents.
V: Although we are far away from China, we still celebrate Chinese festivals here.
A: We’ve learned a lot about Chinese traditions.
Mom: After rowing the dragon boat, let’s have some rice dumplings.
V: I know. When we celebrate Chinese festivals, we always eat Chinese traditional food.
A: What have you eaten?
V: I had Chinese dumplings on Spring Festival, tangyuan on the Lantern Festival, zongzi on the Dragon Boat Festival, and mooncake on the Mid-Autumn Festival.
A: You hungry kitten.
Mom: You can eat till you are full when we go back to China to celebrate the New Year.
Together: That’s great! We love Chinese festivals!
