Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain: Chapter 7 - Space Exploration

Описание к видео Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain: Chapter 7 - Space Exploration

This chapter of Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain by Betty Edwards discusses the concepts of negative space and the basic unit. These two tools help you figure out how to draw objects that might otherwise be confusing or intimidating to tackle. Her book explains that drawings are more unified and pleasing to the eye when equal attention is paid to both the objects being drawn and the space around them. As for the basic unit, this is a concept that helps establish correct proportions in a drawing, and helps with scaling up and scaling down a drawing. You know the cliche of an artist holding their pencil or paintbrush out in front of them and squinting before putting something down on the paper or canvas? That move is the artist measuring a portion of the composition as it relates to the basic unit they have picked. You'll see in the video that I'm pretty bad at actually putting these concepts into practice, but I'm learning, and I hope you are as well.
