In this video we will look at using Service Fabric Actors and what benefits they provide to our applications. Service Fabric actors are built on top of stateful services and have much in common with these services in that they hold state and are partitioned. In this video we will mostly focus on how actors store state in Service Fabric and how actors communicate with each other and with other services.

According to the Service Fabric documentation an actor is an isolated, independent unit of compute and state with single-threaded execution. The actor pattern is a computational model for concurrent or distributed systems in which a large number of these actors can execute simultaneously and independently of each other. Actors can communicate with each other and they can create more actors.

Actors are a popular pattern in distributed systems and work well with micro services architecture. Service fabric provides a framework to allow us to start developing against the Actor model.
