After rumours suggested Man United were eying a move for Daniel Bachmann less than 24 hours ago, Fabrizio Romano has another update for us.

It looks like Dean Henderson will be leaving Manchester United in some capacity this summer. That actually has me feeling somewhat disappointed as I actually believe the Englishman should be given an opportunity here at Old Trafford.

Alas, he will have to be replaced following the retirement of Lee Grant. The club still have Tom Heaton on the books, though going into the season with just two goalies is extremely risky.

That’s where Watford’s Daniel Bachmann comes in. The Austrian was relegated with The Hornets in 2021/22 and is seemingly looking for a way back into the top flight.

The usually reliable Fabrizio Romano has provided us with an update on this brewing transfer saga – and it’s a positive one for United fans who want to see the club sign Bachmann.

Apparently, United are now ‘in talks’ with Watford to sign the 27-year-old, with the Reds wanting to bring Bachmann in as a backup option.

Watford will only consider the permanent sale of the player, with the fee previously quoted at around the £4million mark.

Bachmann, among options for Man United to replace Dean Henderson who’s one step away from joining Nottingham Forest as revealed last week.

Rather than this being a glamorous signing, it’s a necessary one. We fans aren’t going to get excited about the addition of a back-up goalie, but if Henderson does in fact depart, the club needs to bring someone in.

From what I’ve seen of Bachmann, he’s okay but nothing particularly special. The fact that he seems competent with the ball at his feet is a step in the right direction, as that falls more in line with Erik ten Hag’s possession-based style of play.
