Teens find acceptance and belonging based on what others think of them. 🤔

Having friends is an important basis for building relationships outside of the family.

𝑹𝒆𝒔𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒄𝒉 𝒔𝒉𝒐𝒘𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒐𝒓 𝒕𝒘𝒐 𝒈𝒐𝒐𝒅 𝒇𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒏𝒅𝒔 𝒊𝒔 𝒋𝒖𝒔𝒕 𝒂𝒔 𝒈𝒐𝒐𝒅 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒂𝒔 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒂 𝒍𝒂𝒓𝒈𝒆 𝒈𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒑 𝒐𝒇 𝒇𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒏𝒅𝒔.

This is oh so tricky because teens so desperately want to fit in, so they sometimes try to conform to what the other kids are doing, and this is not going to be a lasting friendship. 😕👥

Our roll as parents is to talk them through how to focus on what allows them to express their true selves, and if they aren't finding that at school.

Thank the kids at that school and work with your teen to find a group or club outside of the school.

Focusing on what you are giving in the friendship is a good way to start and you will know quickly if the other people are returning the effort.

It's hard and tricky and it can hurt feelings or send a negative message to our teens when friendships don't work out.

But, this is also a way to teach them that we outgrow people that is okay because there is a place that is your perfect fit.

You just have to go find it!
