Yomo Toro

Yomo Toro, el gran senor, living legend, born in Puerto Rico and plays the steel stringed guitar, the cuartro, indigenous to Puerto Rico.
Yomo, who just turned 75, was the first to play that instrument in salsa music and also responsible for bringing that instrument into the larger world.
His discography is long. His specialization is called "jibaro" music, pronouned Hee Ba RO and it means country or hillbilly music. Nothing simple about Yomo's style of bending notes and his amazing technical skills. The way he hears and the way he plays it is clear why Yomo is considered a class act. His most recent release is a collaboration with trombonist Roswell Rudd called EL ESPIRITU JIBARO on Sunnyside records.
