Over the last year, the market has experienced a significant roller coaster, with the Nifty ranging from nearly 26,300 down to 21,700, and now recovering to almost 25,700.

In this video, we review the performance of various sectors over the last year (Diwali to Diwali) and identify which sectors offer the best investment opportunities this Diwali, utilizing a contrarian investor style.

Last Year's Market Performance Review:

• Losers: The highest sectoral loser was Technology (IT), providing approximately −12.2
in negative returns. Small Cap funds also delivered negative returns. Infrastructure funds lost −4
, and PSU funds lost −3.47
, both driven by euphoria.
• Winners: Last year, Silver and Gold delivered massive returns, with Silver-based funds seeing 81
returns and Gold-based funds yielding about 67
. International funds, such as US Nasdaq funds, also saw returns of 30
. Furthermore, when comparing returns, Debt-based funds provided better results than equity funds over the last year.

Investment Strategy for This Diwali (Contrarian Bet):

We adhere to a contrarian approach, avoiding sectors driven by recent euphoria and instead focusing on areas with depressed valuations and strong fundamentals.

• Avoid High-Flyers: We recommend avoiding Silver and Gold, as they have already seen significant increases, leading to potential profit booking (Silver had already dropped 6.6
after the Indian market closed at the time of the video recording). International funds are also best avoided.

Top Recommended Sectors for Diwali Investment:

Our analysis identifies sectors that are currently undervalued or showing strong fundamental support:

1. Technology (IT) (First Pick): IT is considered a good contrarian bet.

◦ The Price-to-Earnings (PE) ratio for the IT segment has corrected significantly, now sitting below 24.88 compared to its five-year average.
◦ The Price to Book value is attractive, appearing near a five-year low.
◦ The Dividend Yield has increased significantly, currently higher than the last five-year high.
◦ Future Catalyst: Interest rate cuts and favorable trade talks (including potential tariff reductions, such as a 25

tariff cut mentioned) are expected to boost the IT segment.

2. Banking (Second Position):

◦ The Banking PE is currently below its median and is not considered expensive.
◦ While Earnings per Share (EPS) has recently dipped (due to NPA results and slow growth in fresh loans), the banking quality is building.
◦ Future Catalyst: Anticipated interest rate cuts are expected to drive fresh loan uptake and improve revenue growth.
