Mark wrote "I did not grow up in an alcoholic home. While alcohol was not involved there was plenty of chaos, instability, rage, control, poverty, name-calling, abandonment, irrationality, secrets, addictions, shame and all around craziness. So in a sense, I'm an ACOA without the alcohol. My status in this area is partially why I have not blogged or recorded a video about ACOA issues to this point. Then I was very pleased when I came across a statement by Dr. Janet G. Woititz, the author of the book that started the 'movement' called 'Adult Children of Alcoholics' that indicated that the traits of ACOA are shared with many other types of dysfunctional families."

Mark Smith founded Family Tree Counseling Associates in September of 1989. He has a B.A. in Sociology from Purdue University. He did his graduate work in Clinical Social Work with an emphasis on Marriage and Family Therapy at Michigan State University. Many couples who have been stuck trying other approaches have gotten unstuck utilizing his directive, abrasive and intense style. Insight can shift the entire focus of a relationship.
