Former England rugby union international Tom Voyce is believed to have died after crossing a ford in his car during Storm Darragh, police have said.
The 43 year-old entered the River Aln near Alnwick in Northumberland in his car, Northumbria Police said.
The force said officers received a report on Sunday morning that Mr Voyce, who played for clubs including Bath and London Wasps, had not returned home following an evening with friends.
