Pres. Biden has vowed to make tackling the climate crisis one of his main areas of focus, as the White House recently issued an order deeming ‘climate considerations as an essential element of U.S. foreign policy and national security.’ As some of his first executive actions he took after being sworn into office, Biden rejoined the Paris climate agreement and revoked the permit issued to greenlight the Keystone XL pipeline. Later today, Biden will sign further actions addressing environmental racism, clean job creation, and making climate protection an aspect in all parts government. In regards to the country’s climate agenda, Kerry has said that the United States needs to be ‘as ambitious as possible because our credibility has been tarnished in these four years we have been absent.’
