Citizens’ changing attitudes towards democracy – Augustin Goenaga

Описание к видео Citizens’ changing attitudes towards democracy – Augustin Goenaga

Today, democracy is first and foremost associated with competitive elections. However, this has not always been the case. From Ancient Greece to the medieval city-republics, democracy was associated with other practices and institutions related to deliberation, negotiation, and discussion.

Researcher Agustín Goenaga’s work has analyzed how citizens view and respond to other democratic practices, especially those related to public deliberation.

Welcome to this Crafoord seminar, where he will present the results of past and ongoing research funded by the Crafoord Foundation. He has measured changes in the quality of public debate around world in the past two decades and will present how those changes have affected citizens’ attitudes towards democracy.

Agustín Goenaga is an Associate Senior Lecturer at the Department of Political Science at Lund University.

The Crafoord seminars are a collaboration between the Crafoord Foundation, Lund University and Lund City library, with the aim to present research which has received funding support from the Crafoord Foundation.
