Welsh Highland Railway Superpower 2024 - Garratts, Diesels and Kalaharis

The return of the Superpower gala weekend on the Welsh Highland Railway, saw the public debut of NG15 No. 134, which was giving footplate rides in Dinas bay platform. Dinas was the hub of the event, with additional attractions during this open weekend, with shuttle trains to Waunfawr and Caernarfon, with trains shunting into the yard to clear the way for the through Snowdonia Star and The Harbourmaster full line service trains (which each had a SAR wagon added).

Out on the main line an intensive timetable of steam and diesel hauled trains, mainly between Caernarfon and Rhyd Ddu, which saw the lines South African Railway NGG16s 87 / 130 / 143 and Tasmanian pioneering Garratt K1 operating a variety of mixed trains, alongside diesel locomotives Vale of Ffestiniog (operating an extra service from Porthmadog) and Castell Caernarfon.

Locations include Caernarfon, Dinas, Tryfan Junction, Betws Garmon / Salem / Plas-y-nant, Rhyd Ddu and Pitts Head.
