Figure Drawing Exercises!

In this video I go over the basics of drawing your character from different angles. With high camera angle and low camera angles.

I also show how these same techniques can be used for stylised characters that don't have human anatomy (right at the end).

Learning to master these skills takes a long time. And there are many ancillary skills tied up in figure drawing. Perspective, Form Drawing, and your ability to visualise the three dimensional space are key.

But it's not just a matter of learning all the basics first and then at some distant point in the future becoming amazing... the process involves back and forth. Spending time applying your skills... Drawing fun/interesting things... and then going back to the well of technical drawing to improve your foundation.

Hopefully these demonstrations and exercises can help you with the basics of drawing figures from different angles. And inspire you to brush up on your perspective foundation.

Once you get good at these basic manipulations of the perspective and camera angle... you can play more and more with the camera angle and extreme nature of the distortion.

If you want to learn about the techniques I am using based on the Loomis Method you can check out these videos:

With most types of stylised types of art - There is often a mix of structure and perspective and technical drawing.... combined with symbols and abstract features.

Once you get good at blocking in proportion and posing with the Loomis Method you can use it to suit your own style.

It's just a tool you can use to help you draw cool stuff!

Happy Drawing!
